The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) is a federal advisory committee to the Internal Revenue Service. It serves as a liaison between the IRS and the American public, identifying areas of improvement within the IRS and making taxpayer priorities known to the agency.

The 75-person committee comprises members from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, along with one international member to represent American taxpayers who live abroad.

TAP acts as a focus group for the IRS, gathering a variety of information and perspectives from various demographics across the U.S. and submitting recommendations on how to make the IRS’ customer experience a more positive one.
